In 2008 I graduated college and I was looking for a car to buy. I didn’t have one of my own, but I lived with my parents who had two and my aunt who also lived with us had one. It definitely wasn’t needed, but I wanted one. The type of car I wanted was Dodge Charger. I’m not a car guy, but I just liked the way they looked. I didn’t end up getting a Charger because I had a girlfriend who had a Ford Mustang. After I married that girlfriend (which is Amanda if you haven’t caught on yet) we were looking to start a family and a Mustang is not a good car to have to start a family. We purchased a 4 door reliable Nissan Sentra. Then we had our son and we quickly ran out of room in that little car so we purchased a van. Looking back we can see that our place in life alters our values. As a recent college graduate I just wanted a “cool” car. Now I like having a larger car so I can separate the kids and fit all their “stuff”.
In Proverbs there is a statement that is definitely applicable to everyone, but mainly to women. Proverbs 31:30 states, “Favour is deceitful, and beauty is vain: but a woman that feareth the Lord, she shall be praised.” This verse reminds us to examine our measures of value. Favour (charm) and beauty fades. They are deceitful. The person who gets a mate by flirting, will one day realize how fake that is. Instead scripture tells us to look for a mate who fears the Lord. Does your mate study the Bible? Do they seek the Lord’s face on a daily basis? Are you the type of mate who meets these qualifications? Take stock in what you value in a mate.
