If I were to ask you, “Who is the most famous person ever?” you would probably respond, “In what field?” The question would be only slightly easier if I asked, “Who is the most famous hockey player?” “Who is the most famous musical composer?” or “Who is the most famous artist?” Especially in our world of information, statistics, and endless opinions being spewed all over social media, “famous” can be easily confused with “popular.” In years gone by, someone’s fame was spread through word of mouth, ranging from local gossip, to legendary tales.

However, with Jesus, nothing needed to be exaggerated. The facts were so amazing that simply relaying them would inspire wonder and awe from all who heard it. Jesus’ fame was so widespread that he couldn’t even enter a house in a foreign area without folks knowing about it!

In the city of Tyre, a Syrian woman, from the area called Phenicia, a gentile woman, approached Jesus and asked him to cast the demon out of her daughter. His fame had reached her and she had to come to ask Jesus to do what he had already done for others. Jesus initially denied her request, because she was not from Israel, but after she humbled herself, acknowledging her position, but begging for the smallest amount of favor, He told her to go home, her daughter would be fine. Sure enough, she goes home to find her daughter laying on the bed.

In Matthew 7:32-34, Jesus heals a deaf man, but instructs him not to tell anyone about what happened. The man, having received such a great and amazing gift from Jesus, couldn’t HELP but tell others about this Christ.

In Matthew 8, 3-8, Jesus feeds the multitude, and they were amazed at how He could take a few small fish and 7 loaves of bread (Probably not much bigger than a dinner roll), and turn it into such an amazing meal.

Deaf being able to hear, blind being able to see, multiplying lunches, and demons being cast out – don’t you think that you’d be telling everybody about what YOU had seen?

We know from Revelation 4:11 that He is worthy to receive glory, honor, and power. So how are you doing at making Jesus famous today? Do the people at your work or school know Jesus? Have you told them about His amazing works, matchless character, and unwavering love?

If not, maybe you need to work on making Jesus famous today. If you’d say, I share the gospel, great! Now what are you doing beyond that to make sure that EVERYBODY knows about Jesus? How can you make Him famous today? Sharing answers to prayer is a good one. So is talking about what you appreciate about His character.

At the end of the day, we can echo 1 Chronicles 29:11, “Thine, O Lord is the greatness, and the power, and the glory, and the victory, and the majesty: for all that is in the heaven and in the earth is thine; thine is the kingdom, O Lord, and thou art exalted as head above all.”
