There’s no denying that technology grows more and more advanced year after year. Sometimes it feels like it’s week after week. One thing’s for sure, the world seems like they have it all figured out. Supposedly we are smarter, stronger, more athletic, wiser, more up to date with the latest and greatest. We’re also much more egocentric, thanks to technology.

Just like the pharisees in John 9, the world believes they have all the answers. The world depends on technology or themselves. We are not to be the same, born again believers should be dependent on the Holy Bible and Jesus. We see in John 9 that Jesus heals a blind man both physically, and through the Light of Jesus spiritually.

The progression of the blind man’s faith is amazing. At first he tells his neighbors about the amazing miracle. In explaining, Jesus he says in verse 11, “… A man that is called Jesus made clay, and anointed mine eyes, and said unto me, Go to the pool of Siloam, and wash: and I went and washed, and I received sight.” Not seeing Jesus yet he calls him a man. Then the blind man’s neighbors take him to the pharisees, and while he’s there he realizes even more the extent of the miracle and listens to the pharisees discussion about “how can a man that is a sinner do such miracles.” He calls Jesus a prophet. His faith is growing. It’s growing so much so that even when his parents coward away from the pharisees showing that they too are going to deny Jesus and their son’s salvation, he doesn’t cower. The blind man stands firm in his Faith and in verse 28 it says, “Then they reviled him, and said, Thou art his disciple; but we are Moses' disciples.” They give the blind man a great compliment and don’t even realize it. Finally when Jesus hears the pharisees cast out the blind man, He finds him. With still growing faith in seeing Jesus, and knowing now who he is calls Him Lord, in verse 38 “and he said, Lord, I believe. And he worshipped him.” He worships Christ as we should. How do we fair compared to the new disciple of Christ? Would we have the pharisees calling us disciples? Do we have the world reviling us? If our parents won’t believe in Jesus, will we still follow the one who Is the light?

Fellow believer, we can’t be cowards anymore. The blind man was overly happy to give his testimony as we should be. The blind man’s life was forever changed and you can clearly tell that while reading his story. Being born again brother and sister, we too need to display this life changing enjoyment to know our savior; knowing we have everlasting life; knowing that we are safe in His arms; knowing that what happens on this earth is the worst it can possibly get for us. When you are living like the blind man, with everyone reviling you because you are different, you will produce fruit. People will want the same hope that you have, in a world dependent of themselves and the idol of technology. We are born again, so the Lord says we are known by our fruits. If your life reflects that you are born again, you should be bearing fruit. If you’re not, find the excitement of the blind man and look different from the world, so that you can be known by the Savior because of those who chose to follow Him by watching you.

“If we knew we were to die at 12 o’clock tomorrow night, would we have to step up our evangelistic efforts, or could we in all good conscience carry on just as we are?' - John Wesley
