A couple of years ago, I worked at a chemical factory. We mixed certain chemicals that would become a preservative for different foods. The goal for a preservative is to allow food to have a longer shelf life. It protects it from going bad as quickly. While working in the department, we mainly made preservatives for food. The world is involved in making up all different types of preservatives. You have preservatives for wood, fuel, cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, etc.

If you eat chips or cupcakes, even put on chapstick, and take some medication because you’re ill, you put your trust in those products. We often take a bite or swallow that pill without a second guess as to whether or not it’s expired. Just a forewarning: everything has an expiration date. So if you want to eat that Twinkie that’s been in your cabinet for five years, you should check that date. The things of this world don’t last forever.

That being said, there’s one that can preserve for eternity. There’s no expiration date, and He gave us something that we can always turn to and trust. God had preserved his word and us as born-again believers. Psalm 16:1 “Preserve me, O God: for in thee do I put my trust.” David turns to God for protection because he trusts in the Lord Almighty. Do we sometimes get caught up in a situation with our kids or at work where we think I got this, or I can get myself out of any situation? Even if our situations aren’t as serious as David’s might have been, we need to be like David and put our trust in God to preserve us.

Over and over, throughout scripture, we see written something about the right hand of God. In Psalm 16:11, David says, “Thou wilt shew me the path of life: in thy presence is fulness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore.” God’s right hand gives us protection, provision, and promise. We need to learn to always turn to Him in everything. God loves us so much he’s preserved his words of truth so that we can know that way of everlasting life. It also teaches us how we can directly and correctly communicate with Him. Much of the world isn’t preserved, including the 1% looking for the answers of everlasting life. We need to do as Jesus commanded and show the world that there is a way to be eternally preserved. With God, there is no expiration date. We have His Holy Word of Truth. How comforting it is to be in God’s right hand.
