There’s no denying that a lot of the world has smart phones. You’ll look around and see six, seven, and eight year old kids on cell phones. Even grandparents nowadays are involved in the high tech industry. Studies have shown that 77% of Americans have smart phones. In 2020 99.3% of China’s online usage came from smart phones. The average Internet user checks their phones 58 times a day. If the stats raise your eyebrows wait until you read this. Nomophobia, also known as cell phone addiction, makes up 66% of the worlds population. That’s two out of every three people. I think it would be safe to assume that…..
- cell phones are in most American homes
- Americans use there phones for all answers
- we wear our phone like a tattoo, it never leaves our side
- cell phones are the single greatest idol in the world.

Cell phones are apart of everyday life and can be used for good, but mostly they have had a negative effect on the world. Phones have been abused as things like a babysitter for kids, a bullying tool on social media, even to view pornography.

Every time I write a devotional I usually write on things I myself struggle with. I recently realized that I am on my phone way too much and not paying enough attention to my wife, kids, and especially God. I feel phones blind you from valuable God, prayer, devotional, meditation, and family time.

The antidote to this blinding poison is clearly God and His Word. Deuteronomy 11:18-20 says,  “Therefore shall ye lay up these my words in your heart and in your soul, and bind them for a sign upon your hand, that they may be as frontlets between your eyes. And ye shall teach them your children, speaking of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, when thou liest down, and when thou risest up. And thou shalt write them upon the door posts of thine house, and upon thy gates:.” Do we have God‘s law memorized on our heart? How about Bible verses? I just recently started verse memorization, and wow, you can gain so much spiritually just by memorizing these verses. The best part is God‘s word has all the true answers that we all need to live by. Not googles answers. How often are we teaching our kids Godly things? Our smart phones won’t. We as parents and grandparents need to put in the long hours of teaching our children the truth of God’s Holy Word. Ask your child questions throughout the day, go over verses, and read them nightly devotionals. Also, don’t just do this with your kids ask your spouse questions, test them so they can better produce fruit, and hold each other accountable.

Finally, use Gods word as decorations throughout your home so there’s a constant vibration going off in your head to turn to God and not your phone. If you have a gate to get into your home or yard, there are two sides to that gate. Use the outside as a witnessing tool and the inside as a prayer for the outside so Gods word reaches the 66% addicted to the Idolatry of the blinding black box.

“The only real argument against the Bible is an unholy life. When a man argues against the Word of God, follow him home, and see if you cannot discover the reason of his enmity to the Word of the Lord. It lies in some sort of sin.”
