Recently, I had a conversation with a co-worker who is probably the smartest plumber my company has. It was the first time I got to work with him one on one and I could tell that it kind of bothered him that I was a Christian. So as I'm standing there threading some black iron pipe for an air line, he starts asking me some spiritual questions. One thing that came up was homosexuality. I told him first that I love everyone and went on to say that they are living in sin and God says in the Bible that that's not okay just like lying, lusting, stealing, and blasphemy. As I told him this, I could see the wheels turning in his head and he just said, "well, I don't care what anybody says, I believe that some people are born gay." I said, "Okay, do you think they are born gay, or are they born a sinner?" I could tell that was not the answer he was expecting. That ended that conversation, because he didn't know what to say.

Now he's not the first, and I'm sure not the last, person I will ever hear say that. After a few days of working together, we had another conversation about Christ. I told him about sin by presenting some of the Commandments, hoping to convict his heart. After walking him through some of the Commandments, he tells me that he believes he is a good person, and that he was baptized when he was a baby. Then he told me that all gods are the same. I, of course, shared with him why he was wrong and that ended that days' round of questioning.

A few days after those couple conversations, I started studying God's truth in trying to figure out why he has the view he has on God. Why does he believe you're born gay? Why does he believe he's a good person? Why does he believe that all gods are the same? The answer is given to us when Jesus speaks in John 8:44. He is listening to the father of lies. It all boils down to the lies the world has shoved on us all. Whether it's through the news, college, or elementary school, we are taught things contrary to the Word. We learn things like evolution, or that you must be a flaw in God's design and you can actually be the opposite gender He created you to be because He must have made a mistake. We are being taught lies that affect people. What about the little white lies? Do they still affect someone? A little lie could lead someone into divorce, suicide, adultery, stealing, cheating, the list goes on and on. White lies, or global lies, all lies no matter what title you give them get you to one place. Revelation 21:8 says"...all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone...which is the second death." In today's reading, Proverbs 29:5 says, "A false witness shall not be unpunished, and he that speaketh lies shall not escape." There is no escape, God knows it all.

Lies come from Satan, not God, so who are we serving? Lies are very common and most of the world thinks of it as something that is very menial when in fact it's something that God hates. God hates lies so much He even made it the 9th Commandment. Although the world has accepted and desensitized lying, God hasn't changed just because the world accepts sin. Hebrews 13:8 says, "Jesus Christ the same yesterday, to day, and forever." Praise the Lord, we have Him who cannot even tell a simple lie, and is only ever Truth.
